A few of our recent projects.

Our clients range from Government Departments, through a wide variety of businesses.
What nearly all of them have in common is a need for total confidentiality.
As a result, the following case histories can give only the barest details of the projects concerned.
If you engage any of our services, you can be sure that we will treat your organisation with the same levels of care.
Other factors that distinguish our business ethos include a holistic approach to every problem - and painstaking attention to detail.

Helping the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to restructure the nation’s Fire Services.

The FiReControl project (www.firecontrol.odpm.gov.uk) was initiated in 1999 and gained momentum after the events of September 11th 2001.
In order to enhance resilience, standardise best practice and facilitate networking between the regions, the 46 existing county fire control rooms are to be replaced by 9 Regional Control Centres (RCCs), which will form an important part of the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI).

  • ECA has provided key input into the design, specification and selection of the RCC sites.
  • We are responsible for achieving sustainable Resilience and Security measures and ensuring that no key components or processes are subject to single points of failure.

A Technical Design Authority (TDA)
for Network Rail’s IT infrastructure.

  • We reviewed and established the requirement for a revised Network Rail Information Security Directorate.
  • Acting for the main board, we conducted an in-depth review of the Business Continuity Plans for London’s mainline stations and their supporting infrastructure.

Designing, developing and delivering
the infrastructure of the Government Gateway.

The Government Gateway (www.gateway.gov.uk) provides the single route for secure, authenticated transactions between the public and government departments. By registering with this unique website, an individual or organisation can transact their taxes, including VAT, and access numerous government services.
The site acts as ‘middleware’ between departmental back office systems and front office applications, such as departmental websites, portals and commercial applications.

  • Working to a very tight deadline, ECA was engaged, as a Microsoft Partner, to deliver the infrastructure and enable the Accreditation of this ambitious project.

Reviewing the Cabinet Office Knowledge Network.

This system shares Ministerial and Departmental information across government.

  • Our recommendation that the infrastructure and security architecture be revised and re-sited was accepted.
  • We supervised a large part of the subsequent rebuild, security accreditation and entry into service.

Why UKonline works so smoothly.

Ukonline (www.ukonline.gov.uk) - now known as Directgov (www.direct.gov.uk) - gives access to all UK Government information and services online.

  • ECA was engaged by the Cabinet Office e-Delivery team to redefine and supervise the rebuild of the portal’s architecture – on time and to budget.
  • ECA wrote the operational service processes and ran the core Live Delivery operations for the first six months of service, to establish operational procedures necessary for continued service.

European Hotel Chain saves
£ 300,000 – and 7 months.

This client, with 100 hotels throughout the UK, Germany and Holland wanted to revise its finance and resource management programmes, using SAP.
Three pilot projects had already failed and the programme was seven months behind schedule, with just six months before ‘go live’.

  • ECA was engaged by the European Main Board, to review the entire business proposition and underlying technical plan – which was found to contain numerous fundamental errors.
  • Having accepted our recommendations, the Board asked us to programme manage for delivery.
  • Following a successful redefinition, and demonstration of the solution in a target hotel, the project was delivered across the UK, followed by rollout in Germany and Holland.
  • Apart from delivering the project just three weeks after the original planned deadline, we renegotiated the hardware and software contracts to save the client approximately £300,000.
